The Broads by Bike

The Norfolk Broads is an ideal place for cycling; quiet lanes, gentle undulating countryside, unique and beautiful landscape. These combine to make the Broads a truly special place, just waiting to be discovered by cyclists of all ages and abilities.

The Broads by Bike network consists of nine circular rides exploring the northern Broads area from Wroxham, Ranworth and South Walsham along the River Bure to Neatishead, Barton Turf and Dilham on the River Ant, with a lot more in between. There is even a stretch of Network that reaches the coast, at Horsey, with its sand dunes and resident seal population.
The overall boundary route covers 58 miles, and with links to off-road routes connecting you with the Bure Valley Railway path and National Cycle Route 1 via North Walsham and Aylsham, the Broads by Bike Network enables serious and leisure cyclists alike to plan a rewarding trip around this special part of Britain.

Rail links to the Network are available via train stations at Wroxham, Acle, Salhouse and Worstead. Cycles can be carried free of charge subject to available space, with each train able to carry up to 4 bikes. Look for the special carriage marked with the cycle logo, usually at the end of the train. It is advisable to book space for your bikes and for more information visit www.nationalexpresseastanglia.com or phone National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950.

If arriving by car, most bike centres have space for you to park.

The map below shows all nine routes available, and each individual route can be downloaded as a PDF. Simply choose the one most suitable for you, and have a great day out!

Cycle Hire

There are several cycle hire centres in The Broads, many sited close to moorings, where cycles for all the family can be hired by the day or half day. Many also offer hourly rates on request. Route maps are available from each location, free of charge, which not only help you find your way around but also provide information about local attractions and places to eat.

The Bittern Line (a railway line which runs from Norwich, through The Broads, to the North Norfolk coast), has a number of cycle routes from its stations. ‘Around The Bittern Track’ is a map and guide to these routes and is available for £1 from Norwich station, the Bure Valley Railway and the North Norfolk Railway.

Most centres have tandems and some offer electric bikes for people with limited mobility. If you’re staying in the area, some hire centres will even deliver to accommodation within a 10 mile radius of their base.
