The medieval city of Norwich comes alive with thrilling and evoking Christmas events from November– traditional and contemporary - for young and old alike.

Annual family events in Norwich include the Christmas lights switch on in 3 locations! A Victorian Christmas at Strangers’ Hall, puppet workshops at Norwich Puppet Theatre and the Norwich Philharmonic at St Andrew’s Hall. You will also find scores of other special events including carol services, performance, markets, tastings, music and art to be enjoyed 7 days a week from morning till night.

Christmas Shopping Events

Find seasonal events, tastings and deomonstrations in Jarrold, John Lewis, Chapelfield, The Mall and The Norwich Lanes. Shop in Christmas Markets held at historical buildings such as Dragon Hall and Norwich Cathedral.

Santa’s Magical Journey at Thursford
End of November - 23 December
A wonderful treat for all the family, this spectacular journey really is the best of the best!
Your journey takes you past the penguins and polar bears to see all the giant sized teddy bears ready to load Santa’s sleigh. Past the busy elves hard at work in the toy factory taking in the wonderful wrapping machine. You’ll meet lots of fantasy characters including the snowman family but watch out for the snowballs before you make your way though the magical forest to reach Santa’s House where you meet the man himself and all his gifts for all the Children that come to visit. Booking is essential!

Santa Specials
December
Visit Santa in his grotto at the Bure Valley Railway. Included in the price of the ticket is a personalised Christmas present for each child, return steam train ride starting from Wroxham, refreshments for all the family, railway workshops - chance to see inside the railways workshop and a child's Entertainer to keep the children and adults amused.

Mince Pie Specials
end December – early January 2012
Trains depart Aylsham and Wroxham.
Once the main Christmas festivities are over take time with the family for a leisurely steam train ride and one last indulgence of a mince pie! Every fare paying passenger gets a free mince pie whilst at Aylsham Station.

Meet Father Christmas and his reindeer at Fairhaven Garden. Live music with Top Brass, children's crafts, roast chestnuts and mini-market.

Norwich Theatre Royal, Pantomime
Come and join in the fun with all the family when the Theatre Royal’s annual panto comes to town! Opening for its 5 week run from mid December you will be delighted by the antics and frivolity that the great British tradition of panto brings at this special time of year.

Norwich Puppet Theatre
Offers a variety of performances and workshops right up until Christmas.

St Peter Mancroft, Norwich - Christmas Panto Children’s Carol Service
Christmas Eve (am)
Join the annual Pantomime Carol Service in Norwich’s largest church at St Peter Mancroft with the cast and BBC Radio Norfolk. This wonderful and special Christmas Eve service will no doubt add to the excitement of the day before Christmas. A great family way to celebrate the season.

Festive Heritage Trail

Festive Heritage Trail - Norwich City Centre FREE
Norwich Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART) has put together a self-guided walking trail which will take people around our enchanting city. The festively themed trail is packed with quirky anecdotes and Christmas facts, and covers many of the buildings which are part Norwich 12, the city’s collection of its finest heritage buildings.

If the trail is followed in its entirety it will take around 90 minutes. However there are options for shortening the walk and also for adding in visits to your choice of heritage attractions which are putting on special events this Christmas including concerts, markets, craft activities and tower tours. There are also plenty of venues along the way which offer hot drinks, food and a chance to put your feet up!
