Broads Events Highlights

There are numerous events and activities taking place in the Norfolk Broads during the summer. There’s heaps of fun for all the family from wherry tours and sailings, to canoe trips, nature walks, wildlife trails, traditional village fetes and outdoor concerts. Here’s our pick of the best:
Canoe Trails on the River Bure
7th June, 9.30am - 1pm or 2pm - 5.30pm. Buxton to Coltishall or Coltishall to Hoveton. £14 adult, £9 child

Enjoy some quiet time out on the water on a guided canoe trail exploring part of the River Bure's scenery and wildlife with a Broads Authority Countryside Ranger. Open Canadian canoes are safe, stable and seat up to three adults. No experience necessary, but you must be able to swim. Equipment and instruction provided. Bring a packed lunch to eat on Coltishall Common or have lunch at one of the riverside pubs.

Pond Dipping Sessions
8th June, 10am - 11am, 11am - 12noon or 12noon - 1pm, Whitlingham Country Park. £2 child, £1 adult supervision.
Can you find a water scorpion? Learn about the life that lives beneath the waves in the Great Broad at Whitlingham.

Walk on the Wild Side
14 June 2008, 10am - 1pm approx, Bure Marshes National Nature Reserve. Free
Join this special walk around the Bure Marshes finding out about some of the unique plants and wildlife that live on the marshes and how the area is managed for conservation. The walk is within an area not normally open to the public! Length of walk approx. 2 miles.

Broads Natural History Boat Trip
20 June 2008 , Ranworth to Cockshoot Broad and return. £8.50 adult, £6.50 child, £25 family.
Come and explore the River Bure on the Helen of Ranworth reedlighter, a traditional Broads boat that marshmen used to carry bundles of reed in days gone by. Visit Cockshoot Broad within the Bure Marshes National Nature Reserve and find out about the unique Broadland wildlife and the habitats in which they live. Length of walk approx. 1 mile.

Dragon and Butterfly SafariTrip
29 June 2008, RSPB Strumpshaw Fen, £5 adult, £3 child
A guided walk in search of the dragonflies and butterflies of the wetland, woods and wildflower meadows. Book in advance.

Annual Loddon Scarecrow Festival 'Celebrity Scarecrows - from Adam and Eve to Posh and Becks!
12 July 2008 to 13 July 2008, Holy Trinity Churchyard and Loddon High Street, Sat 10am - 5pm, Sun 12noon - 5pm
Once more famous scarecrows will be taking up residence in Loddon. Noah and his ark will be at the staithe - can you spot his animals that have escaped into houses and gardens around Loddon? Celebrities hiding in gardens and in the churchyard - can you find them all? Saturday afternoon will feature bouncy castle, fete stalls, BBQ and wonderful views from the top of Holy Trinity Tower. Also music from Loddon Brass Band. Sunday will see more stalls, refreshments and this year parachuting teddies from the tower from 2pm - bring your favourite teddy and watch them take to the air! Fun for everyone.

Twiggle Dress Parade
26 - 27 July 2008, BeWILDerwood, Horning Road, Hoveton, £10 (adults and children over 4), £5 (3 & 4 years), £7.50 concession, under 3s free.
Dress to impress. Wear what you dare. Strut your stuff. The biggest dressiest weekend in BeWILDerwood ever.

National Parks Week
28th July - 3rd August 2008
A number of events are being held in and around the Broads to celebrate National Parks Week.

Norfolk Open Churches Week
3rd - 10th August 2008
Over 150 unique and beautiful churches can be found in the Norfolk Broads and Rivers area. Find out how visitors, pilgrims and local people can enjoy and help to promote the fabulous churches located in the area.

Steam Boat Trips to Barton Regatta
24 August 2008, Museum of the Broads to Barton Broad and return, £10 per trip
Ride on our Victorian steam launch 'Falcon' to watch sailing and racing at the Barton Regatta. 2 hour trips leaving on the hour.
