The Boogle-Wish Bonfire

Guess the wishes of your favourite BeWILDerwood characters, warm yourself around the big BeWILDerwood bonfire and make your wish, for the coming year, the secret Boggle way. Can you work out which wish belongs to which Boggle or Twiggle? Find the wishes around BeWILDerwood and match them to your favourite BeWILDerwood characters to win your prize.

National Nest Box Week
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve and Gardens
Sunday 14th – Sunday 21st February
Celebrate National Nest Box week at Pensthorpe. Fun nest box treasure hunt for the children, large range of nest boxes for sale in the shop and advice on which is the right nest box for you.
Entrance to the shop is Free. Reserve admission prices apply

Children’s Author Event - Hilda Offen

Millennium Library, Norwich
Tuesday 16th February, 2.30-3.30pm
Funny author and illustrator Hilda Offen will be in the Children’s Library at the Millennium Library during half term. Hilda was short listed for the 2009 Roald Dahl Funny Prize and now needs you!
Come along and help Hilda to create a brand new illustrated story right here in the Millennium Library.

This is a free event and everyone is welcome, but please note that children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

The House of the Flying Dragons
Dragon Hall
15th - 19th February 2010
Make your own fantastic flying dragons and mobiles with trailing tails and fearsome faces. Rediscover the ancient dragon language Dragonish. Younger visitors and their parents can enjoy storytelling with Dragon Hall’s own selection of dragon tales and story books provided. Throughout the week there is a special admission price of just £3 for adults and children which includes general access to Dragon Hall and its exhibits – and under 5s go FREE.

Children’s Writing Workshop in conjunction with Inspire Discovery Centre

Wednesday 17 February, 11.00-12.00
Millennium Library, Norwich
Come along to our special Creative Writing Workshop, the activities will include creating fantastical characters, inventing brave new worlds as well as round robin storytelling with a twist.

Everyone is welcome but the session will be aimed mainly at 7-11 year olds, you don’t need to bring anything except your imagination!

Spring Half Term: Drop in Art Activities
Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts
Tuesday 16th – Sunday 21st February – 10am-5pm
Go and spend the day discovering what they have to offer. Have fun at the activity table with their artist designed things to do, and perhaps explore the collections with their special activity suitcases, maps and trails.

The Key in the Sea
Norwich Puppet Theatre
Tuesday 16th – Wednesday 17th February – 2.30pm
The Key in the Sea is a playful tale of love, monsters and adventures on high seas. Performed with puppets made from natural materials, live music and lots of joining in.

Squeaky Clean!
Strangers’ Hall
Wednesday 17th – Saturday 20th February – 11am-12.30pm & 2-4pm
Have a go at housekeeping activities, past and present. Invent your own housekeeping device and build a model vacuum cleaner*. Also find out what they have been up to over the winter months when the doors were closed to the public.
Tickets are normal museum admission. *Extra charge.

Seaworld Puppet Workshop
Norwich Puppet Theatre
Wednesday 17th February – 11am
In this workshop you can make as realistic or fantastic a puppet of a creature of the seaworld to take home with you. The finished puppet will be operate by one or two rods. The workshop should last about 1½ hours. For ages 5+.

Chocolate Heaven!

Millennium Library, Norwich
Explore the history of chocolate making in Norwich, then design your own chocolate bar wrappers.For children aged 6-11 in the Children’s Library. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. This event is in partnership with Norfolk Museums Service.

In the Clink

The clock gets turned back in the Keep as they delve into the gruesome history of Norwich Castle as a prison! Handling sessions, costumed characters and much more.

Storybook Character Family Puppet Making Workshop

Have you ever wished to bring your favourite storybook character to life? In this workshop you will only be limited by the time to hand and your creative urges when creating … a hobbit, a gruffalo, alice in wonderland or … whatever leaps from the page into your mind. Workshop last about 1½ hours. For ages 5+

February Half Term: Children’s Studio: Studio Toolkit
Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts
Thursday 18th February
Spend the day in the artist’s studio where you will design and make your own art tools for painting, and then use them to create masterpieces to take home. Suitability guide - ages 7+. Please bring a packed lunch.

Pop-up Puppet Workshop

Working on the principle of a “Jack in the Box”, this puppet has a secret and that is when you pull it down into it’s “pot” it disappears … only reappear when you push the rod up again. It could be a fairy popping out of a flower, a dragon out of his lair, or a shy dormouse out of her house … the character and decoration is up to you. Workshop lasts about 1½ hours. For ages 5+

Find out how Red Riding Hood’s Magic Purse saves the day in this delightful show for ages 3-8 years. Rod-glove puppets and shadow theatre combined with original music to bring this fabulous story to life. Running time is about 45 minutes. For ages 3+
