The elephants are coming!

Norwich’s streets are set to be transformed this summer when a mammoth public art event will turn the city’s open spaces into an artistic urban safari. Go Elephants! will see approximately 50 life-size baby elephant sculptures, colourfully painted, decorated and adorned by celebrities, local Norfolk artists and community groups and installed across Norwich from 23 June to 31 August.

Go Elephants! is an initiative led by The Forum Trust and Wild in Art with the objective of moving art from the gallery and placing it on the streets of Norwich in a fun and inclusive way. Each elephant will be individually decorated by one of up to 50 local artists working on the project, creating a splash of colour across the city centre and providing a fun and appealing way to showcase the range of creative talent that exists across the county.

Visitors will be able to pick up free Trail Maps as a guide to all the elephant locations around Norwich. It is hoped that the size of the event will give tourists even more reasons to come to Norwich for a day of their holiday. A glossy Souvenir Guide featuring information on each of the painted elephants and their artists, along with interesting features about the animals, conservation and more will also be available in retail outlets.

When the event closes at the end of August, the elephants will be taken off the streets, spruced up, and the large majority sold at a Gala Auction, with 75% of the net proceeds going to two charities: the Born Free Foundation and CLIC Sargent Children’s Charity.
