Arts Events Highlights 2010
in Norwich and the Countryside

Norwich is justifiably regarded as the arts capital of East Anglia boasting a truly vibrant arts scene comparable with much larger cities. Norwich has more cultural activity per head than anywhere else in the UK (locallife.org) from permanent and visiting exhibitions to lunchtime recitals and outdoor concerts.

Here are the 2010 event highlights, have a wonderful time enjoying the vast array of events and entertainment on offer.
Art on the Railings
Art on the Railings runs for one weekend every month throughout the year. Now in its fourth year, this event continues to bring art into the urban environment. It is designed to enhance the city centre and promote just one part of Norwich’s rich and diverse culture by giving artists the chance to display their artwork in a space away from the traditional gallery setting.

Watercolour in India: Travelling With Colour

An exhibition of watercolours from the South Asian Decorative Arts and Crafts Collection. The South Asian Decorative Arts and Crafts Collection has resulted from over 30 years of travelling through South Asia and neighbouring countries. The emphasis has always been on collecting objects which reflect the everyday arts, crafts and culture of this exciting and vibrant region.

Norwich Medieval Churches Photography Exhibition - The Forum
5th March - 13th March
An exhibition of winning and shortlisted entries from HEART’s photography competition which ran in autumn 2009. The competition celebrates Norwich’s outstanding collection of medieval churches, the pivotal role they play in city life and showcases inspiring photography talent.

World Book Group - Origins, Amin Maalouf

Come along to our friendly book group and enjoy reading and discussing world literature with writer Katri Skala. Set in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the mountains of Lebanon and in Havana, Cuba, Origins recounts the story of the author’s paternal grandfather, Boutros Maalouf, and his generation.

The next free monthly screening for the Slackers Club is Kick-Ass, showing on Mon 29th March, at 1.30pm. This funny, screw-ball, high-energy adventure, directed by Matthew Vaughn and produced by Brad Pitt, tells the story of average teen Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic book fan who decides to take his obsession one step further and become a real-life superhero.
