Christmas events in Norwich & Norfolk

Across Norwich and Norfolk there are plenty of amazing, festive events to enjoy. Everything from Christmas markets and fairs, to light shows, pantomime, and where to see old Saint Nick! Here’s our rundown of some fantastic Christmas events going ahead in Norwich & Norfolk in 2021.

The Tunnel of Light

The Tunnel of Light has become one of the most anticipated Christmas attractions in the UK. Owned by Norwich BID, the tunnel is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, with visitors travelling from far and wide to enjoy it over the Christmas holidays. Consisting of more than 57,000 LED bulbs and 5.6 miles of cabling, this 45-metre spectacle will be in Norwich from 16 November until the new year. Norwich Castle projections

Another festive favourite amongst visitors and locals is the incredible Christmas projections onto Norwich Castle. Over the years, guests have been amazed by the shows projected onto the iconic façade of Norwich Castle – everything from Fantasia to Father Christmas! This year a brand-new projection show is set to spread festive cheer throughout Norwich.

Christmas Crown Trail

Presented by VisitNorwich and Norwich BID in partnership with Norfolk Museums Service is a Christmas Crown Trail spanning over 80 locations in the city centre!

In celebration of royal visit from a medieval King 900 years, shops, restaurants, hotels and iconic historical buildings have all hidden crowns in their windows and stores for you to find. Aimed for all ages to enjoy, the trail takes you from Norwich Castle to the Tunnel of Light and everywhere in between spotting crowns of all shapes and sizes. There are four trails to enjoy which you can follow with the help of a trail map (which can be found at racks throughout the city and from our City Hosts from 5th November). 16 November – 5 January.

Journey Through Christmastime Pop-up

Pay a visit to Norwich Market where you’ll find a unique Journey Through Christmastime pop-up installation – perhaps the smallest exhibition in Norwich! Discover stories of Christmases past in Norwich with photos from museums, businesses and the people of Norwich on display. Festive lights, Christmas trees and baubles make this a mini immersive experience that’s sure to get you in the festive mood. 17 November – 17 December.

Dick Whittington at Norwich Theatre Royal

Norwich Theatre Royal is back with a bang this Christmas, treating families and friends to some classic pantomime fun! Dick Whittington & His Cat tells a rags to riches tale, and is guaranteed to provide a night of fun. With songs, a live band, magic, dance routines, comedy and more – you won’t want to miss this. From 8th December – 9th January.


Thursford is the place to be this Christmas, with not one, but two experiences to enjoy! The Enchanted Journey of Light is a unique, immersive light experience. Explore over 4 acres of breath-taking light artwork and sculptures that create a stunning winter wonderland for visitors of all ages. Everything from polar bears and penguins, to giant-sized teddy bears, elves and more. Your journey will progress into Santa’s Magical Journey Building – although Santa is still ICE-olating this year! See how the elves have loaded Santa’s sleigh, and them hard at work in the toy factory.

Fancy some singing, dancing, and performance? Then the Christmas Spectacular show is for you! With a cast of 130 fantastic performers, this is the biggest Christmas show of its kind in Europe. Running from 9th November – 23rd December, prices start at £38.

The Norfolk Festive Gift and Food Show

Get ready to enjoy three days of festive shopping and fun at the Norfolk Showground. Find the perfect Christmas gifts for the family, and sample delicious festive food and drink while you’re at it! Running on the 12th, 13th and 14th November.

The Festive Fair at The Forum 

Looking for Christmas gifts? The Festive Fair at The Forum is the place to go. Take in the gorgeous Christmas lights that decorate The Forum building as you shop for cute, unique and interesting presents. From 25th – 28th November.

Christmas Market at Pensthorpe Natural Park

On 28th November, the popular Christmas Market returns to Pensthorpe Natural Park for its 4th year. Enjoy crafts, delicious festive food and drink, and great local produce from across Norfolk. The perfect place to finish off your Christmas shopping.

Bure Valley Railway’s Festive Express

A day out on Norfolk’s longest Narrow Gauge Steam Railway is great at any time of year, but their Festive Express really is something special. Enjoy festive treats, a steam train ride, and even a guest appearance from Santa himself! Running from 4th – 24th December, prebooking is essential.

My First Panto: Cinderella Rocks

My First Panto returns to The Garage this year with a brand new show. This telling of Cinderella is the perfect introduction to theatre for the little ones and is aimed at ages 7 and below. Enjoy singing, dancing, and all out laughter! Plus there are socially distanced performances, relaxed performances, and performances with BSL.

Festive Wreath Making at Maids Head Hotel

For anyone looking to step up their Christmas crafting skills this year, wreath making at the Maids Head is a must! For just £38 per person, guests will be treated to a delicious mince pie, a glass of prosecco, and a wreath making masterclass with Hannah Jarvis from Fern Flowers. Create your own unique wreath arrangement that’s perfect for hanging on your front door or gifting to a loved one.

Dippy’s Christmas Celebration at Roarr!

Enjoy a Jurassic winter wonderland at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure this Christmas. There are two celebratory events to enjoy. Jingle all the Day include some delicious treats and a meeting with Father Christmas himself! Or you can go for Sparkle in the Dark, where you can access the park in the evening and enjoy meeting Father Christmas under the stars!

Festive Wreath Making at Fairhaven

Running throughout November and December, visitors to Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden can enjoy socially-distanced crafts at one of their wreath making workshops. For just £30 per person (£25 for Fairhaven members), this 2-hour session will teach you how to create a fabulous Christmas wreath to hang on your door, using fresh foliage and natural materials from Fairhaven’s woodland garden.

The Santa Experience at Wroxham Barns

This unique Christmas experience was a huge hit last year and is back again for 2021. Taking place every weekend in December plus 21st, 22nd, 23rd and even Christmas Eve, guests can enjoy craft workshops, festive story-telling, an animal nativity, and fun with Santa and his elves. Book tickets here.
