The 30-strong chamber choir, under the direction of UEA Choirmaster, Tom Primrose, will take a tour through five centuries of European Christmas music, from rustic medieval carols and the exquisite polyphony of the renaissance, to intimate and ravishing music of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and thought-provoking contemporary works.
Highlights from the programme will include: Mateo Flecha el Viejo’s, Riu Riu Chiu; Jacob Handl’s, Mirabile mysterium; William Byrd’s Puer Natus est Nobis; Michael Praetorius’, Es ist ein' Ros' entsprunge; Franz Xaver Gruber’s, Stille Nacht; Gustav Holst’s, This have I done for my true love; Francis Poulenc’s, Quatre Motets pour le temps de Noël; and Michael Head’s, Little Road to Bethlehem.
The concert will be performed in the beautiful, medieval surroundings of St George's Tombland.
The concert is free to attend and all are welcome.
