From Sunday 15th September 2019 19:00 to 22:00
The 17th annual variety concert returns again as part of the Autumn programme, and once again the cast has quality throughout in this night of fun, frivolity and fundraising for two breast cancer support charities.
The Back to Birdland quintet, led by pianist Simon Brown, pay homage to George Shearing, a working class blind boy from Battersea who grew to become a brilliant US Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and one of the best-selling jazz artists of all time. Joining Simon will be Roger Beaujolais (vibes), Simon Hurley (guitar), Jose Canha (bass) and Alex Best (drums) and guest singer Joanna Eden to perform some of the best-loved tunes arising from Shearing's collaborations with Peggy Lee and Nancy Wilson
Jazz guitarist, comedian and firm favourite Earl Okin returns for his umpteenth appearance at the Playhouse, performing his unique brand of musical genius to the stage. Joining him will be Italian vocalist Celeste, bringing together the rhythms of bossa nova & jazz, and to fuse together the flavours of Brazil.
It's a warm welcome back to young Norfolk singer Kayleigh Gare who delighted us in 2018; this year she will be duetting with another young local performer Josh Oram. And finally vocalist Joseph Betts joins the house band with songs from the Great American Songbook.
All profits from the show are split between two breast cancer support charities, Breast Cancer Now and Keeping Abreast.
