We are all under surveillance, but what does it mean to watch and be watched?
Following its sell-out debut in 2016, The Story Machine returns with Under Surveillance, a new selection of world-renowned writers and a brand new building to explore.
Powered by literature and oiled by theatre, this immersive experience lets you step into the shoes of characters like never before. You’ll travel behind the North Korean iron curtain, to the wild frontiers of everyman-for-himself America, and to the early years of the printing press.
Featuring readings, performances and installations, including brandnew work by Haruki Murakami, a film and audio exhibition by Helen Macdonald, Sarah Wood and Olivia Laing, and stories from prize-winners Ben Okri, Tessa Hadley, KJ Orr, Thomas Morris and more.
