NNF17: Nadine Shah

From Saturday 20th May 2017 22:00 to 23:15

Part of the Norfolk & Norwich festival.

Conjuring evocative and visceral tales over gothic piano arrangements, Nadine Shah is a mesmerising singer, constantly challenging her listeners, exploring and dissecting taboo subjects in a graceful and sincere manner.

Born to a Norwegian mother and a Pakistani father in the coastal village of Whitburn in South Tyneside, Nadine grew up hearing her father singing exquisite Urdu ghazals.

With influences ranging from Scott Walker, to Patti Smith and poet Philip Larkin, Shah has a uniquely rich and soulful voice and effortlessly eloquent and arresting lyrics.

Her unusual band includes Pete Wareham (Melt Yourself Down/Acoustic Ladyland) and the legendary Neill MacColl.
