UEA Inaugural Lecture: The mathematics of water waves under ice and related phenomena

From Tuesday 5th November 2019 18:30

In 1834, while conducting experiments to determine the most efficient design for canal boats, John Scott Russell discovered a phenomenon known in fluid dynamics as a solitary wave. This discovery sparked interest in researching additional nonlinear waves in fluids. Join Prof Emilian Parau (School of Mathematics) as he explores recent discoveries of new waves in fluids that are covered by ice plates, generated by moving vehicles and airplanes on ice, those with surface tension and waves on ferrofluids.
