As we wait in anticipation for the first half term of the year, it’s time to start planning! With so many exciting activities, shows, workshops and more to keep the whole family entertained, you’re sure to make a whole lot of memories. And as it’s February, that means things to do inside as well as outside!
From young scientists to budding writers to energetic dinosaur lovers, Norwich and Norfolk is packed with things to do. Take a trip on the beary exciting Teddy Express, get involved at Norwich Science Festival or head to Pensthorpe for a fantastic nature-inspired Olympics!

14 – 21 February, citywide, free & ticketed

Norwich Science festival is a wonderful way for families to get creative and learn
One of Norwich’s most highly anticipated festivals is back for it’s 10th birthday in 2026! This half term sees Norwich Science Festival return to The Forum and venues across the city, bringing with it it’s signature blend of experimentation, creativity, and fascinating science. (This year, there’s even a live dissection!)
There’s so much to see and do- you can check out their full programme here. Highlights include The Explorium (14 – 21 February, The Forum, 10.30am – 4pm, FREE), the heart of the festival where budding scientists can get stuck into activities that change everyday! Think a magical world of microbes, wonderful local wildlife and more. Elsewhere, The Atom Stage (14 – 21 February, The Forum, 10am – 4pm, FREE) is putting on free performances everyday, with dinosaurs, bubbles, flying canister rockets, colour-changing potions and more to captivate you!
Embark on a time-twisting adventure with The Great Science Time Tour (14 – 21 February, The Forum, various times, FREE) to discover scientists that changed the world and meet the puppets promoting the conversation about animal conservation in interactive show The Zoo That Comes to You (Sunday 15 February, Norwich Theatre Stage Two, 11sm & 2pm, £12pp).
Love is Sweet at the Museum of Norwich
14 – 21 February, 10am – 4.30pm, included in museum admission (adults from £8.20, children from £6.90, twilight ticket 1 hour before closing £2.50)

Take inspiration from the Museum of Norwich’s own collection of Valentine’s cards to create your own!
Two things that make up Valentine’s? Chocolate and cards, of course! At the Museum of Norwich, you can follow their Rolo Chocolate Trail around the museum and if you complete it, there will be a sweet prize waiting for you. Don’t forget to have a go at creating a beautiful Valentine’s card, too and give it to a loved one- be it family, friends or even a pet!
If you visit on Tuesday 17 February, you can get a taste of the life of a museum curator with a special hands-on handling session exploring fascinating objects and discovering the rich history of Norwich’s chocolate industry.
And while you’re here, discover our local tradition of the mysterious Jack Valentine and Valentine’s Eve– you never know, you might be lucky enough to receive a gift!
Shows at Norwich Puppet Theatre

Norwich Puppet Theatre never ceases to entertain and captivate audiences
As one of only three building-based puppet theatres in the country, Norwich Puppet Theatre is a wonderfully unique venue to visit, especially in half term.
Enjoy the traditional tale of Thumbelina, cleverly crafted with fun shadow puppets, as she encounters new friends along the riverbank (Saturday 14 February), or escape for a while in a new take on a favourite fairytale: Oldilocks and the 3 Bears (Tuesday 17 February). Join Oldilocks as she sets off to rediscover three breakfast-loving bears in this funny and warm-hearted take.
Then see where your mind takes you in Cardboard Carnival (Sunday 22 February)! This mash up of Charles Dickens, French compose Camille Saint-Saens and a whole lot of cardboard sees a carnival of animals (and perhaps the ‘ultimate animal’) emerge from trunks, tails, ears, wings and more!
Looking Back, Looking Forward: Your World Through Art at Norwich Castle

This half term, discover Norwich Castle’s amazing selection of art with their Watercolour Now exhibition! With their Your World Through Art activities, use the spotter sheet to find hidden details and get hands-on with fun crafts. Unleash your creativity with watercolours and build your own landscape, or try your hand at collage to create your own vision of the future.
Scavenger Hunt at Chantry Place
14 – 22 February, centre opening times, FREE

Can you solve the clues and complete the riddle in Chantry Place’s scavenger hunt?
Test your inner sleuth at Chantry Place with their free-to-take-part scavenger hunt! Pick up a sheet from Langleys Toy Shop and see if you can solve the clues and tick off all the items as you shop and explore. Each entrant will get a shiny ‘Champions’ medal for their efforts from the store highlighted in the final riddle! Once completed, post your completed form in the postbox outside Langleys Toy Shop, to be entered into the competition to win a Langley’s voucher.
While you’re here, there’s plenty of restaurants where kids eat free this half term.
Children’s Activity Day at Redwell Brewery

Everyone loves superheroes, right? Get involved with Redwell’s fantastically themed activity day
Redwell Brewery’s children’s activity days are always guaranteed to be packed with fun things to do and get involved with!
This February, it’s all about superheroes. Whether your chosen superpower is telepathy, invisibility, super strength or something else imaginative, you can expect, fancy dress, crafts and games to make it a super Sunday afternoon and start the half term on a high.
Unleash your creativity creating your very own superhero cape (perfect for swishing around in), cuffs and masks (to scare away the baddies, of course)! There’s also fun colouring sheets and superhero lolly sticks! Block out the cold in Redwell’s heated marquee- book a table is recommended.
Activities at Castle Quarter
16 – 20 February, various times, FREE

There’s loads to do at Castle Quarter this half term!
This half-term at Castle Quarter, there’s plenty to keep you occupied every day of the week!
The week starts with a preloved uniform pop-up (this is one for the parents) on Monday 16 February (9am – 4pm), followed by crafts by Norfolk Recovery Community on Tuesday 17 February (10am – 4pm). Perfect for ages 5+, you can have a go at making your own bracelet and seeing if you get lucky on the luck dip, all the while supporting this local charity!
On Wednesday 18 February, it’s all about ‘Get Me Out of the Four Walls’, while ‘I Love Norwich’ takes place on Thursday 19 February (11am – 3pm). This community-led art project invites everyone to pick up a crayon or pen and share what Norwich means to them. Whether it’s our famous landmarks, our welcoming residents or the way the city blossoms in the spring, your design can be as detailed or as abstract as you like! Select artwork will even go on to form part of a new community display at Castle Quarter this spring.
And on Friday 20 February, Norwich Castle Learning Team is bringing history to life (10am – 2pm). There’s engaging crafts to try, including decorating your own miniature castle. Or explore rich textiles like those worn by royalty and discover armour, weapons and fascinating objects from everyday medieval life. (You might be in with a chance to win a ticket to Norwich Castle!)
Workshops at Norwich Theatre
16 & 17 February, various times, FREE and pay what you can

Inspired by The Great Big Bug Show, what will you create in Norwich Theatre’s Crafty Cafe?
One of the best ways to unleash your creativity is with performance. And at Norwich Theatre, you can get involved with a series of theatrical activities.
Their Sensory Stories for SEND (Monday 16 February, Stage Two, 2pm – 3pm, pay what you can) allow everyone to have a go, welcoming families with children with special educational needs and disabilities (7 – 11 years), including non-verbal children, through a journey of imagination and play. Meanwhile, their Crafty Cafe (Tuesday 17 February, Cafe Royal, 11am – 3pm, FREE) to drop in and create your own puppet! Inspired by The Great Big Bug Show, let your personality shine with a fluttery butterfly or dazzling dragonfly!
Workshops at National Centre for Writing
17 – 19 February, various times, FREE and ticketed

Activities at the National Centre for Writing is ideal for any wannabe author
The National Centre for Writing is perfect for story-loving children, no matter their age.
In Medieval Monologues (11 – 13 years) (Wednesday 18 February, 10am – 12pm, from £2.50), you can create your own character from the Middle Ages, no doubt taking inspiration from Dragon Hall around you, before having a go at writing in their voice. Or learn How to Write a Play (13 – 18 years) (Thursday 19 February, 11am – 12.30pm, FREE) in this friendly, interactive workshop with award-winning playwright Tife Kusoro!
And for the younger ones, there’s the ever-popular Family Activity Day (Tuesday 17 February, 10am – 3pm, FREE), where you can take part in storytelling in the book nook, crafts with local artists and giant games.
Stories in Stone at Norwich Cathedral
Tuesday 17 February, 10am – 2pm, children from £3.50, adults FREE

Get to know this centuries-old building by getting up close to it’s incredible stone design
Norwich Cathedral is over 900 years old, so it’s no surprise that the very stones of this beautiful building have many a story to tell!
As part of Norwich Science Festival, you can take part in the Cathedral’s Stories in Stone crafts and activities (10am – 2pm, children £3.50). Learn about the different types of stone and how they were used to construct the space you’re in, and get creative making fossils and following a special trail! There’s no need to book, so just drop-in and have a go.
And to find out even more, there’s a fun, family-friendly 1-hour workshop (10.30am – 1pm, children £4.50, book in advance) for budding scientists. Here, you’ll learn about limestone and its origins, discover fossils and carvings, and find out why the stone is pink!
Slime Workshop at John Lewis Norwich

Reopening in February half term following their annual deep clean, Strangers’ Hall is a wonderful museum in the centre of Norwich.
As one of the oldest buildings in the city, a former merchant’s house, you cand iscover interiors from throughout history and experience the stories of those living here. Each room is brought to life by authentic period furnishings, whether you’re in the Tudor Great Hall, Georgian Dining room or Victorian Nursery. And on a dry day, don’t forget to take a moment of tranquillity in the Elizabethan Knot Garden.

Did you know 2026 is a national year of reading? You can celebrate all things books at Holkham’s Festival of Little Stories this half term.
From The Little Story Trail (solve the clues to reveal the books and collect your prize) to illustration workshops (where you can create your own character). Not to mention immersive storytelling events where local and national authors will bring their tales of medieval magic, fantasy and folklore to life!
And while you’re here, don’t forget to make the most of Holkham’s sprawling parkland, woodland play area and exciting ropes course.
Winter Olympics of Nature at Pensthorpe

On Pensthorpe’s Winter Olympics of Nature trail, see what wildlife you can spot!
