If you’re ready to immerse yourself in Norfolk culture, you’ll have plenty of places to choose from. Holkham Hall has its very own nature reserve and hosts seasonal events throughout the year, from bluebell walks to Halloween horrors. Houghton Hall is a true representation of 18th-century life, with Palladian surroundings and contemporary sculptures. If you like music and the arts, there’s Norfolk and Norwich Festival annually each May, Sundown Festival hosts the latest top international bands (September) at their summer club-vibe party, and Cromer Pier puts on a show every Christmas and summer.
Cross-county cycle, over-the-broads ramble, woodland walks and grand country estates — whatever your fancy, you’ll find it here. Hop on your bikes and freewheel through nature and then stop off for a pub lunch overlooking the water. There are loads of dedicated cycling routes around the county – with many starting or ending in the City – like Marriott’s way, which takes you to the town of Aylsham in North Norfolk along a flat(ish) route inspired by the old railway. Thetford forest is perfect for days out with your dog, and the Broads, well, you’ll want to find out more about this watersport-loving, picture-perfect, wildlife-rich paradise here.
If you didn’t know, we’re passionate about food in Norfolk. We’re renowned for our farm-to-fork foods, and you’ll find something for everyone’s budget and taste here. You’ll find plenty of independent and even award-winning pubs across our county, serving local produce like our Norfolk Black Turkey and locally reared pork, and plant-friendly plates using Samphire, our famous sea asparagus. If fish is your thing, then you’ll love our Cromer Crab, Brancaster Mussels, and Stiffkey Cockles.
No car? No worries. You can take the train from Norwich station to Great Yarmouth and Cromer. And with a gentle walk or a brisk cycle, you’ll be able to hop around the various other scenic trains like the North Norfolk and Bure Valley railways. There are hotels, B&Bs, hostels and camping sites across the county too, so you can always stop off for a spa, a round of golf, or a quick refresh throughout your adventure.
