Jenny Lind in Norwich tour

Norfolk
Norwich

Tours start at the Erpingham Gate of Norwich Cathedral in Tombland (across the road from the Maids Head Hotel) and will last approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. Jenny Lind and Norwich is a new guided walk with Norwich tour guide, Paul Dickson, celebrating 170 years of the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital. The tour includes the story of Jenny Lind’s concerts in Norwich in 1847 and 1849 and the foundation of the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital in 1854.

There will be a visit, to the old Bishop’s Palace, now part of Norwich School, where Jenny Lind stayed. After the Bishop’s Palace, we will follow in the footsteps of Jenny Lind, and enter Norwich Cathedral via the North Transept to view the memorial window to Bishop Stanley and work he carried out in the Cathedral while Bishop. Bishop Stanley was Jenny Lind’s host in 1847 and 1849.

We will also go to the Norfolk Heritage Centre at The Forum to view original programmes and other memorabilia from the the Jenny Lind concerts and later fundraising events. The tour goes past The Halls, where the concerts took place and the site of the former Jenny Lind pub and finishes with a walk to Pottergate to see the site of the original Jenny Lind Hospital.
