In his talk John Balls will explore some of the issues raised in his book Titanic: The Norfolk Survivors. Who were the five Norfolk survivors and what happened to them afterwards ? Why did the ‘unsinkable’ ship not survive its maiden voyage ? And what are the moral/social implications of the story?
John is a Cambridge graduate and formerly Head of English at Thorpe St. Andrew High School. He has been researching the Titanic tragedy for several years He is a member of the British Titanic Society and the Belfast Titanic Society, and chairman of the Norfolk Titanic Society. He has lectured on the sinking in Belfast, Italy, America and Canada.
