With a richly warming baritone voice, Hamish Hawk sounds more mature than his 31 years of life might imply. The up-and-coming UK star has been on the radar, after a decade of self-releasing material, since 2021’s worldwide debut, the stunning Heavy Elevator, which found Hawk earning comparisons to Scott Walker, Jarvis Cocker, Neil Hannon and Morrissey among others.
A relatively quick follow-up, Angel Numbers, was recorded with Idlewild’s Rod Jones at Jones’s Post Electric Studio in 2022 and released earlier this month. If Heavy Elevator was Hawk’s introduction to the world, Angel Numbersestablishes the singer/songwriter as a formidable and unique voice in a crowded landscape.
