Culture in Norwich: Break’s GoGoSafari Trail

For ten weeks this summer, Break’s GoGoSafari trail arrives in Norwich (23 June – 30 August 2025) and it’s free to take part! Why not see how many of Break’s Big 5 you can spot around the city? (That’s giraffes, rhinos, lions, gorillas and elephants!)

There are over 50 to discover designed by talented artists, as well as over 60 Mini Gs designed by local schools and community groups hiding out in shopfronts and venues across the city. And this year, the trail heads into Norfolk, too. But most importantly, you’ll be supporting young people living in and moving on from care.

This is an adventure for all ages. Keep reading to find out more!

A Wild Summer Adventure

This summer, the streets of Norwich and parts of Norfolk will be going wild as GoGoSafari, a public art sculpture trail, fills the streets, shops and public spaces with a spectacular herd of gorillas, rhinos, giraffes, lions, and elephants.

Starting from 23 June, GoGoSafari is the latest public art trail from Break, the East Anglian charity supporting young people in, around and leaving care. Over the years, the charity’s GoGo trails have become popular fixtures in Norwich’s cultural calendar- think dinosaurs, hares, dragons and gorillas!

And GoGoSafari is Break’s most ambitious trail yet. With five animals, it’s the most diverse and exciting trail to date – promising something new around every corner and an adventure for all ages.

Meet The Herd

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses sponsoring sculptures and the talent of local and national artists, each of the 51 large sculptures have been brought to life and turned into unique works of art. Expect to see everything from African-inspired themes to the Norfolk countryside, sparkles to bold patterns, fun characters to graffiti and street art!

Alongside the trail in the city, The County Five offers five sculptures placed in iconic North Norfolk locations including Holkham Hall and Reepham Market Place – ideal for a scenic countryside day trip that ends with a sunset over the sea at Hunstanton. Then there’s also the Mini Collection of five smaller sculptures representing each featured animal.

Trotting alongside are over 60 Mini Gs, smaller giraffe sculptures designed by local schools and community groups, waiting to be found in venues across the city as part of the trail’s Learning & Community Programme.

More Than Just a Trail

While the trail promises fun for all ages, there’s something bigger at the heart of GoGoSafari. Brought to life by Break, in partnership with Wild in Art and the Zoological Society of East Anglia, as well as Norwich BID and Chantry Place, the trail raises vital funds for children and young people in, around and leaving care.

Break works across East Anglia to offer young people stable homes, long-term support, and trusting relationships. The trail helps fund the practical support they need- including mentoring, care leaver support, and mental health services.

Each sculpture represents the life changing work Break does. The elephant reflects the wisdom of volunteer mentors who help young people feel safe and build trust. The giraffe stands tall for care leavers, symbolising the support that helps them reach new heights. The gorilla represents the family-like care of Break’s fostering community. The lion roars for children in residential and disability homes, reminding them they’re part of a strong, united pride. And the rhino mirrors the resilience these young people have with the support of Break’s therapeutic team.

And the impact lasts long after the final footprints fade. At the end of the trail, some of the sculptures will be auctioned to raise vital funds for Break.
