Rumsey Wells (1877 – 1937)
Part of a successful Norwich-based hat making business, Rumsey was the son of Thomas Wells – senior partner in the firm of T. Wells & Son, a firm making award-winning hats and caps. Sold to trade and consumers, T. Wells & Son were the first makers of sporting caps for hunting, racing, cycling, boating, riding, smoking, shooting and travelling. Did you know that Rumsey Wells was a man ahead of this time? He recognised the art of storytelling in his marketing, producing booklets and pamphlets with stories of Norwich promoting his caps as the most expensive in the world.
