Set within 1,000 acres of wildland on the Norfolk–Suffolk border, Fritton Lake is a nature retreat and private members’ club shaped by land, water and season. Centred around a two-mile natural lake and surrounded by heathland, woodland and marshes, it offers a slower, more immersive way to experience the countryside.

The lake sits at the heart of the estate, with year-round wild swimming, paddleboarding and rowing. In colder months, the experience is complemented by the floating lakeside sauna, while miles of trails invite walking and running through the surrounding landscape. Guests and members are encouraged to explore at their own pace, connecting with nature in a way that feels intuitive and unstructured.

Developed by Hugh and Lara Somerleyton as part of the wider Somerleyton Estate, Fritton Lake is a family-led vision rooted in stewardship, hospitality and community. Rewilding plays an active role, shaping both the land and the way people engage with it.

Food and drink are central to the experience, with the Clubhouse restaurant focusing on seasonal, farm-to-fork menus using produce from the estate and local suppliers. Dining shifts with the seasons, from outdoor terrace meals in summer to fireside gatherings in winter.

Accommodation is designed to balance comfort with connection to nature. Off-grid Koto cabins sit lightly within the landscape, alongside farmhouse cottages and eight bedrooms within the 16th-century clubhouse. A wild camping area offers a more elemental stay.

Recreation and wellbeing are woven into daily life, with tennis courts, a natural bio-gym, studio classes and outdoor activities for all ages. Guests can also explore the estate more deeply through guided safaris and foraging walks, discovering its growing biodiversity and free-roaming wildlife.

Fritton Lake is also a founding partner of WildKingdom, supporting large-scale nature recovery and demonstrating how conservation and tourism can exist in balance.
