Father’s Day in Norwich

by Katie Thompson

Father’s Day is the perfect time to show how much you appreciate the father figures in your life- whether that’s your dad, stepdad, grandad or guardian. And whilst we appreciate them all year round, Father’s Day is a great excuse to treat them to something memorable.

From unique tours and unparalleled family time to a delicious meal or well-thought-out gift. For the football fans or the dads who like a pamper, this is how to experience Father’s Day in Norwich!

Unique Experiences

See behind-the-scenes at The English Distillery!

Forget trying to find out his shirt size and treat your dad to a unique tour- there’s plenty to choose from here in Norwich!

At The English Distillery (off the A11 at Roudham), he can go behind-the-scenes with their award-winning whisky (from £25). Or there are Norwich City Football Club’s stadium tours for your favourite lifelong canary (from £20). If it’s Norwich history he loves, then join a tour with The Shoebox Experiences (from £16.50) where you can find out about everything from Norwich’s many pubs to its hidden street. Or treat him to a voucher for Norwich Story Walks’ Weird and Wonderful Story Walk (£10) of the city’s little-known secrets!

For any father who appreciates a bit of downtime, The Norfolk Mead’s Father’s Day packages will convert even the strongest spa sceptic- and they’re all available as thoughtfully presented gift vouchers (from £30)! From the hotel’s signature beer spa (add in a three-course dinner or overnight stay) to their special savoury afternoon tea (served 14 & 15 June), this is a real treat!

And if it’s a day with the family your dad enjoys, why not make the most of our attractions’ great offers? At Bure Valley Railway, dads go free with one full-paying adult (14 & 15 June, £24), while at ROARR! and Pensthorpe, every paying guest (£21.95 and £16.50 respectively) can bring a loved one for free!

In the Great Outdoors

Spend a peaceful Father’s Day on the river Wensum

One of the best outdoor activities Norwich has to offer is Pub and Paddle. This is ideal for any sporty or nature-loving fathers (even more tempting if there’s a pub lunch involved!). Make the most of the city’s beautiful natural surroundings and spend the day paddling along the River Wensum, relaxing alongside swans in the dappled shade of magnificent weeping willows. And to top it all off, you can end your paddle with a refreshing pint (or perhaps a soft drink) in the sun on the Ribs of Beef’s waterside terrace.

If your dad loves to explore, we suggest venturing further into Norfolk. More specifically Holkham. With sprawling parkland that’s home to the Estate’s iconic deer herd as well as a breathtaking sandy beach, nature reserve and more, this is a fantastic place for a long walk, cycle ride and a breath of fresh air (especially if the weather is playing ball!). What’s more, Holkham are celebrating Father’s Day with free cycle hire for any dad, grandad or guardian alongside a paying child (from £12)!

Mouthwatering Meals Out

Make the most of the nice weather in Redwell Brewery’s outside space!

You can’t go wrong with a mouthwatering meal out, especially here in Norwich!

At Redwell Brewery, dads can enjoy locally brewed beers and stone-baked pizza served right in the brewer’s own taproom. And there’s a lovely outside space (it is June, after all) where local street vendors pop-up each Sunday- perfect!

Speaking of street food, in honour of Father’s Day, the Maids Head are launching their Street Food Sundays menu! Dads can enjoy the delicious food the Maids Head are known for alongside an ale flight and a complimentary spin in one of the hotel’s vintage Bentleys (£20)!

And if he doesn’t have such a sweet tooth- what about Afternoon Sea at The Assembly House (£35)? This take on their much-loved treat is packed with three tiers of seafood delights!

Also from Norwich: RB Provisions. Created by local chef (and owner of fine dining restaurant Benedicts) Richard Bainbridge, we love the sound of the spiced fig chutney and popular beetroot ketchup- both family recipes. Yum!
