Gyre & Gimble Bar

Norwich Lanes

This stylish independent cocktail bar upstairs at 18 Charing Cross, next to Strangers Hall is a relatively new addition to Norwich’s bar scene. Inside, an impressive collection of spirits behind the bar takes centre stage with some 70 gins, 35 rums and 35 whiskys (and whiskeys) along with plenty of more adventurous liqueurs sourced from around the world.

Exposed brick and a combination of upcycled furniture with retro-inspired detailing give the bar a stripped back and chilled out vibe, for full focus on the drinks and the company..

From a taste of the Caribbean with a punchy Trader Vic’s to A Night in Paris (honey vodka, Prosecco & white chocolate reduction, passionfruit and lemon seeing as you’re asking), the bartenders at Gyre & Gimble know their stuff and they’re always keen to try something new.

The guys behind the bar, Craig and Rory, also make their own spirits – three gins launched in October 2020 including Nohow, a London Dry, coastal gin Callooh Callay and Queen of Hearts cherry gin. Embracing the real-world and the strange, and taking inspiration from that most otherworldly of sources Lewis Carroll and his eponymous heroine Alice among others, a night at Gyre & Gimble is a chance for the fine folk of Norwich to enjoy locally-produced spirits in their perfect setting.

In fact, their gins are so good, they were awarded the UK Gin Producer of the Year Award 2023 at the International Wine and Spirits Competition! So they’re definitely worth trying out.
