St Peter Hungate

Cathedral Quarter

This pretty little cruciform church sits at the top of Elm Hill on Princes Street. Not as old as it looks, it has a 15th century capped tower, however the whole church was rebuilt in 15th century and then in the 17th century the chancel was rebuilt after it collapsed after the Reformation. Luckily for us the 15th century windows were reused meaning most of the windows are original.

Since 2006 it’s been an interpretation centre for Norfolk’s medieval heritage, the stained glass of Norwich is particularly incredible and St Peter Hungate has the best collection in Norwich after Norwich Cathedral.

See: the Order of Angels; the Evangelists – St Matthew, St Mark, St Luke and St John; the Apostles and the four Latin Doctors of the Church – St Augustine, St Ambrose, St Gregory and St Jerome.
